Who

Andy Bowen (she/her)

Founder and Executive Director

Andy’s career has been focused on activism that gets vulnerable people what they need to thrive. The Popular Front Project is inspired by her experience working in the New York City Mayor’s Office.

As the only trans person there when the new federal regime took office, she worked with community organizers and the conscientious people in City and State government to pressure executive branch principals in New York to show support for transgender people.

She is already working in other states, including New Jersey, to ensure that Blue governments address the dire needs of transgender people, immigrants, people with HIV and AIDS, and others targeted by fascism.

Prior to her time in City Hall, Andy ran a company, Bowen Public Affairs Consulting—still in existence as Collective Public Affairs—which focused on lobbying NYC government, primarily for increased government funding to LGBTQ+ and economic justice organizations.

She became obsessed, and still is, with getting State and Local government budget money for oppressed people.

In the early and mid 2010s, Andy successfully advocated for transgender identity document access, health insurance coverage of gender-affirming care, connecting LGBTQ+ people to quality jobs, and more.

She served as the third executive director of Garden State Equality, New Jersey’s premier LGBTQ+ statewide policy and advocacy organization.

She began her career in the Organizing Department of the Ironworkers Union in Washington, DC.

Briana Silberberg (she/her)

Policy Advisor

Briana Silberberg is policy analyst who has worked at GMHC, the NYC Anti-Violence Project, and on a number of political campaigns. She has extensive experience as an organizer, advocate, and policy specialist, with a special focus on issues affecting the transgender and gender non-conforming communities. She is currently a degree candidate at the Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan for a Master of Public Policy degree.

She also saved Popular Front Project at a do-or-die moment, and Andy will never let her forget it.
